Very exited to hear your initial reaction to the 37E. Hoping they will soon be sold in the U.S. market.

Black hoses are now available as an aftermarket upgrade on Ebay … and yes I think they add a certain elegance.

We should be cautious about labeling the less expensive end of the market “FOR CHILDREN”. I have purchased many of these to inspect and have found most very good. I can’t say how long they would play in tune or how long less expensive reeds would be reliable, but as many of us have said in the past, they make a great intreduction to the world of melodicas for adults as well as school children.

Not faulting you for wanting to learn something about melodica repair, but the next time you are able to spend about $100 it would be smart to look at the Suzuki M37. It is a metal framed instrument with great resonance that I think you would really enjoy playing,

Have not seen it yet, but I got a Student 32 on ebay for $9 + $9 Shipping. It is without a case but reported to be completely working. If this is the future of used melodica prices, why invest $$$ and labor in repairs. Many Hohner clones are out there in the $30 range brand new and can be favorable in their comparison. So you must ask yourself if the student 32 is special enough to save. Best wishes, Paul

First you want to blow no harder than it takes to sound your notes. You can hurt the reeds when blowing too hard. Second please tell us more about your melodica. Is it new and the tone has never played?

Yet for all their talent the received the gong on The Gong Show. And what’s even worse, The Celebrities referred to the melodica as a toy! Thankfully this site is slowly overcoming that notion.

Got around to pulling out my Susuki today and found that both the perfornmer and student had mouthpieces that were compatible with the M37C. Good Playing !

I certainly don’t have that kind of talent. I WONDER, how can you widen the keys when the spacing of the key pads remains the same?

Julie c. — I have played melodica most of my life. Like you, I like black the best and find it alwways adds some sense of seriousness to the melodica. I have spent nearly the last year trying out melodicas and passing many along to friends just wanting to have some firsthand knowledge about them.
I never saw the black M32 until Alan sent us his picture. He shops more Japanese sites, That may be the secret! I hope you will at least enjoy the blue M32C in the meantime. It really is a beautiful instrument.

Today is the first look that I’ve had at the black M32. It isn’t shown on You Tube videos on the Suzuki line. It has beautiful features much like the M37. Thanks, Alan.

Oliver. more users are happy with the factory tuning o the Yamaha Pianicas. The tuning will also last longer in most cases. Having to do less repairs and maintenance is what I mean by longer service. How you play and what you play will determine whether upgrading is worth the cost.
Also let me say, I did not comment on mothpiece as I always use the tube.

The P37D is plastic but superior in quality and tone to other less expensive instruments, Though if you watch for a good deal you can acquire the yamaha P37D for only a few dollars more than the Performer. Do you like a more resonant tone. That is the main difference in having a metal case. The build quality is pretty much the same. Longer service is the number one reason to upgrade. I have all 3 in my collection.
