Daren

Hi, I’m Daren

Welcome to my site, and allow me to introduce you to the world of melodicas!

My story begins with a passion for creative exploration, which has led to an exciting career in music.  Since graduating from Trinity College of Music as a classical pianist, I’ve made musical sculptures for the Courtauld Institute; created a soundtrack score for the Rambert Dance Company; and had my Requiem performed at Somerset House by a troupe of hooded monks.

My music has been performed at the Southbank Centre, Tate Britain, Tate Modern, the Hayward Gallery, and broadcast on BBC Radio 3, Radio 4 and countless TV shows, including The Apprentice, Top Gear and Horizon.

In 2009 I left my lecturing position at Goldsmiths College, University of London, and devoted more time to discovering the full potential of the melodica.  I experimented with technique, and focused on classical and folk music, using every opportunity to include them in recordings and performances wherever I could, even earning a silver medal at the International Fleadh Competition in Ireland.

I set up the Melodica World forum and YouTube channel in 2013, to help the burgeoning global melodica community to come together and connect. Seeing the potential of the melodica as an instrument of the highest quality, I set out to optimise it, making my first 3D printed melodica in 2015.

Today, I make and play wooden melodicas, and work as a psychotherapist, inspiring others to follow their passions and realise their creative potential.
