I think what I will do is wait until I’ve had the pro 37 for six months or so and do a pro/con comparison of the two melodicas.

The first instrument I learned was they keys, about 24 years ago. I’m always looking for new instruments, I play about 13. Just got my first melodica last november. I’m surprised how many people have wanted me to play with then vs when I present myself on other instruments. Got plenty of gigs and offers for gigs now that I play the melodica! It’s wonderful because I just have to show up with a light instrument on my back, sometimes a mic and stand, then just play the gig!

Perhaps it is up to us here, to determine what level of emotion the _melodica_ can reach. Rather than comparing it to the harmonica?

I learnedthat, in hindu/indian culture, the flute or flute-like instrument was the first instrument beyond the voice. The reason being that it was sort of an extention of the breath. As we know, the voice is quite a versatile and expressive instrument. I’ve played keys for 24 years. I’ve been playing melodica for only 6 months. I prefer the melodica. I don’t think the question should be whether it’s an expressive instrument, rather we should ask “what is the melodica best at expressing?” Different instruments express different things.

Glad you folks liked it. I actually just put reverb on it. Recorded it in my bedroom. About telling a story. I was actually reading about using music to tell a story just the other day on a jazz website. Thats how you connect with people. It’s not so much what the story is about its how well you tell it! Learn the theory and techniques and just use them to say what you have to say! 🙂
