    Hi Samuel,

nice wooden melodica you’ve got. Where did you get it from? Is it really black?

    Hi!

The melodica in the avatar is Yamaha P25F with wooden covers. I made the covers in the wood working class at the university of Oulu, Finland. It’s not black but has some dark dye. The wood might be mahogany but I’m not 100% sure because it’s recycled (old door from a train – my dad works for the state-owned railway company).

I had to do this mod because I’m a drummer in a wedding band and play also melodica for some slower songs. We were once playing the wedding march in this nice small wooden church with guitarist and violin player. They had beautiful wooden instruments and I had the yellow plastic melodica. It was pretty clear that my melodica sounded great but didn’t fit in buy it’s looks. Now I don’t have to worry about the visual side when it comes to playing melodica. The only problem left is my fat face behind it 😀

Here you can hear me playing the wooden melodica.

This was the day I lost my plastic mouthpiece and the recordings were the first time playing without any mouthpiece. Now I have a wooden one.

Sounds great! And so does the rest of your band 🙂 I also made a wooden case for a Yamaha P32 – I’ll post some pics
