I see some expressions of dissatisfaction about the color of some models and of their cases. Has anyone thought about sanding a melodica (or case) down and refinishing in a preferred color?
Yes Alan, I once sprayed the body of an Angel Melodica. After sanding, I used car paint sprays to prime it and finish in metallic silver. It actually came out very well – quite an improvement to the original bright pink!
Good. You’ll be getting a box of melodicas in a few days. Black will be good, though a couple of silvers would also be nice.
Someone should set up a melodica finishing service. I’d use it. I even looked into getting chrome plating at one point…
For many melodicas it should be a simple process, since it’s easy to separate out the main pieces that will be refinished, as on the Yamahas. But the finish has to be durable enough to stand up to being handled all the time.
