Hello,
I am looking into buying my first melodica. My main concern is that I mainly want to use it to play with other musicians (violin, accordion, flute, etc). In a lot of cases the melodicas has a=442 Hz. I have always taken for granted that all non-tunable instruments have a=440 Hz, so this has never been a question before. What pitch do you experience works best with groups? Is there a noticable difference between a=440 and a=442 Hz?
Also what melodica would you recommend with a=440 Hz?
I am also kind of after a melodica with a good mellow sound that blends nicely. Any recommendations?
Thanks 🙂
442 is typical for a melodica, Karolina. But melodicas are tunable, and it’s not as hard as you might expect, especially on a new melodica. I generally tune mine down to A=440 or 441. See the tutorial here.
