Hello Ky, many use the hose for practical use such as being able to put the Melodica on a table and play it like a piano, or as an aid to see the keyboard when learning how to play The Melodica. Learning to play the Melodica and not look at the keys is alway best. I have never been able to use a hose and prefer to use the Melodica with a mouth piece, preferably the trumpet (for me). There are many good players that use the hose especially if they use to hands to play. You should try all methods to see what you like best.
