June 14, 2015 at 2:25 pm #5475Tom TeasleyParticipantThank again MM and Lowboy, I’m really very lucky as I get a budget from a theatre company to record some tracks and my engineer is great at video as well. Lowboy, I’d love to to hear / see you track some trad blues rep with slide guitar. I had mentioned a melodica hang sometime. In my percussion world these things are sometimes supported by instrument companies. I guess there aren’t many melodica endorsements. MM, I’m on the “wrong” coast, near Washington, DC. I get out west sometimes and may be there before too long at the Remo factory. Stay well, t
June 13, 2015 at 3:54 pm #5469Tom TeasleyParticipantThanks, M-M. What a great resource this site is. We should try to have a melodica hang sometime. Maybe in realtime or Google Hangout. Thanks for all of your information you pass out! – T
June 13, 2015 at 3:40 pm #5467Tom TeasleyParticipantThanks,Quetscher!
May 22, 2015 at 5:25 pm #5339Tom TeasleyParticipantWow! Thanks guys. I slept on this thread and am so glad I just noticed all of the kind and useful responses! I’ve got some time off coming up and SEVERAL melodicas that can use some tuning. I’m going to practice and use the video supplied here. I’ll prob damage a few but they aren’t really useful as is now. I very likely will check back when I have enough experience to offer a specific and (hopefully) intelligent question. Thanks again for all the feedback! – Tom
May 20, 2015 at 2:28 pm #5315Tom TeasleyParticipantYea,Daren. Tanpura is like BBQ sauce. It makes everything better 😉 Thanks for checking it out!
May 18, 2015 at 4:00 pm #5273Tom TeasleyParticipantThanks Guy, I used to tour to New Orleans and became interested in all of the cultures via Americana. Later I’ve had opportunities to tour the world as a Cultural Envoy for the St Dept. That has opened a whole new world…so to speak. I’m loving the melodica and especially this forum. I’ve been telling my percussion colleagues that studying the wind instruments is having a huge impact on my percussion playing. Im a HUGE fan of both of your playing. MM, you are really expanding the jazz vocabulary and LB your blues playing is close to my heart. We should try to have a MW convention (hang) sometime. Stay well friends! Tom

April 29, 2015 at 12:06 pm #4888Tom TeasleyParticipantSorry for the late reply, Sparkcle and Daren. I’m in the middle of a theatre run. Daren, I’m using the Yamaha Pianica 37 on that recording.Sparkcle, thanks for your kind words. Stay well.
April 5, 2015 at 10:47 pm #4594Tom TeasleyParticipantThanks, guys. I’d like to say I’m improving but these are all previous releases. I have a new one coming out soon inspired by Indian music for a show I’m playing live in. I’ll post when released. Thanks for the feedback. I really appreciate it!
March 4, 2015 at 5:17 am #4248Tom TeasleyParticipantThanks, Mark! I look forward to staying in touch. Tom
February 16, 2015 at 5:58 pm #4148Tom TeasleyParticipantThanks for this, Alan. I just purchased a M- 37C and used it on a concert last night. I like it as a brighter alternative to my Yamaha P37. I haven’t tried to take it apart to tune it yet. Still working on my collection and enjoy reading here about all the options. My next purchase will probably be one of the Honer/Suzuki versions. Take care, Tom
February 6, 2015 at 3:13 pm #4060Tom TeasleyParticipantThank you, Adam and Lowboy. It’s great to be a part of this community! I’m learning so much about melodicas and enjoy sharing my perspective. I look forward to checking out more of your work. All best, Tom
February 6, 2015 at 4:03 am #4054Tom TeasleyParticipantHi Adam, Thanks for your interest. I play the bodhran only with my fingers, not a tipper. You are correct. I moisten my finger and gently rub it along the head to get friction. I’m moving the bodhran from the crossbar inside to allow me to create a figure eight movement and not interrupt the drone. An example can be found here ( sorry for the OT percussion demo)
Stay well, Tom -
