Hi Lowboy – I realize this is an old post, but I wanted to ask a few questions about the technique you describe, so I’m sure I understand exactly what you did. Note: For a variety of reasons, I play with a flexible hose/tubing table-top style. However, I’d love to have a black hose rather than the cheap looking white ones that came with my Yamaha 37 melodica.

My major questions have to do with how you replaced the fitting on the Suzuki tubing with one that fit your melodica. 1) Did you cut the fitting from another tube with the right size fitting for your melodica and attach it to the black Suzuki tube? 2) how different was the size of the suzuki tubing from the new fitting? 3) When you said you “thermoset” the the tubing with a hair dryer, do you mean that you heated the fitted piece and the plastic tubing to form a new bond?
I too think the black tubing looks much better for performance purposes. So Any additional details about how you made your new tube/hose, and how well it’s held up over time would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance. Diane

Once it arrives and I have a chance to test it, I will post a review. Two things re their product that I know thus far: They advertise that the reed plates are copper rather than brass, for “vibrancy and projection.” I’m guessing pure copper will be a little less stiff than brass, but won’t know until I try it. Also, they have posted an excellent video on how to tune your MM37 (or any other) melodica on Youtube, so I’m also guessing it will have the same tuning issues as most factory produced melodicas…For anyone thinking of getting one, right now they are offering a deal that includes Vol 1 and 2 of their various classical duet arrangements for melodica downloaded for free if you buy the melodica as a holiday special. Even if you don’t order the melodica, if you have someone else to do duets with, their arrangements are tailored to the melodica, and are very nice.

Picked up a Yamaha Pianica P-32C at an estate sale a few months ago. I don’t own a D, so I’m also curious as to the history and differences in construction for the two models. There is a nice discussion comparing the A, B and D models, but no mention of the C. Anyone?

OK, all other aspects of the tubes being equal (diameter, materials, etc) has anyone experimented with the length of the tube?

Hi – this is directed toward Alan B and Melodica-Me (Or any others who have used this cleaning method). When using the vinegar-water bath method, do you put the part with gaskets on it into the bath? If so, does that cause any problems? Just wondering about the effects of the vinegar, other than cleaning, on gasket material.

    Thanks,
    Dee

I’m expecting as much from your experience (also the age). Your detailed descriptions of your rehab process will be very helpful! Thanks. Dee

Any sound samples yet (or did I not see them). Loved the sound of the Pinocchio Pianino (I too am a fan of Pinocchio, so this is really great). I just ordered one supposedly in “playable” condition based on your review and sound postings.

Just wondered if the sound of the two models compared as closely as you thought they would.

    Thanks.

Nicely done. Subtle, and great blend – hard to pull off no matter what instrument you’re playing.

I have just spotted a few vintage Samick-36 models on ebay, and saw one I haven’t seen discussed on this forum – A Samick Melodihorn M-36 N. It’s in a cloth case, black and yellow.
The other 36 key Samicks I found are an SM-36A (pink edges, red back) and an M-36A. Anyone familiar with these, especially the N model?

    Comments re sound and quality?

I’m assuming, based on forum discussions that they are similar to Suzuki 36 models of the same era?

Thanks for any advice anyone can offer.

A bit of tube is only a few dollars. Unfortunately, the shipping is $7 plus unless you order more than $25.00 worth of supplies.
