[Mods — if this is considered spam, please accept my apology and delete it. 🙂 ]

Hey all — I just released a new mostly-instrumental album and I thought I’d post it here because there is a lot of melodica on it. It’s called Reliquary:

I’m releasing videos for all the tunes as well (a couple per week) on my second YT channel.

    Hope you like it!

I think it’s fabulous! Are you on the facebook group? I posted a link to it there. Also I discovered your Youtube video on difference tones- thanks for explaining that!

Thanks! No, I’m not a Facebook user but i appreciate you posting it there. 🙂

Yeah the difference tones in the melodica are really neat. I was surprised by them when that viewer pointed them out!

I hope to start making my way through your collection of “Audio Illusions” videos! Have you done any on the “illusion” of tuning? (Why certain intervals sound better than others, and why certain tunings might sound better to the ear than others)? I haven’t dived into that topic yet (different types of tuning and which might be best for a melodica) but I’m interested. By the way, on Youtube I’m “Doctor Melodica” and you might find this line of experimentation interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZU-EA6584I&t=368s

Great, hope you like them. 🙂

I haven’t done videos on tuning systems like Just Intonation and so forth, but I did do one on the origin of the 12-tone system that may be of interest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFbG-8eYKJU (see video description for one correction).

I’ll watch that tuning video you made with interest — I’ve gotten pretty nerdy with melodica tuning and always welcome more perspectives.

    Thanks!

On that tuning video, what software/hardware are you using to make those measurements?

I’m using a program I wrote in Labview, a Focusrite audio interface, a pressure sensor, and a USB sensor interface. I can get more specific but can’t upload images here. thinking of setting up a website soon to post details like this.

Neat! What pressure sensor did you use? Or maybe I can just wait for your video or website if you explain it. I like the hands-on science here. 🙂

I used this along with a Phidgets USB hub. I can explain, you can email me directly if you like, dbrancazio at comcast dot net. https://www.phidgets.com/?tier=3&catid=7&pcid=5&prodid=110

Great stuff, thanks for posting it! It’s great to see how different people approach the challenges of melodica tuning. I like the nichrome reed heater, too. 🙂
