ParticipantIt’s adequate, Sharon, but either the Yamaha P37D
or the SUZUKI M-32C
is a far, far superior instrument if you’re willing to pay a bit more. Amazon has the Suzuki with free shipping right now for $65.66
(if you’re in the U.S.). I have all three of these melodicas and have taken the P-32D and M-32C apart and tuned them. The build quality and the sound of both is much better than the Hohner 32b. The 32b or almost any cheap melodica is fine as a starter, though, and you can always upgrade later.

ParticipantAnother option at about $50 is the Suzuki Melodion MX-32C
. I haven’t yet actually played one of these, but it is the mid-range 32 key Suzuki, between the cheaper Suzuki Study-32
(better in my opinion than the Hohner Student
or Instructor) and the high end Suzuki M-32C
. The MX series Suzukis are of superior build quality to the cheaper models and are reported to have very good sound. The M series Melodions have a metal tray, the MX a plastic tray but not flimsy like the the Study-32. The MX models have only recently become available on Amazon in the U.S.
